Dan Lukens

Purchase College is where I received my formal training but in truth, drawing, painting and sculpting have been a part of me since early childhood. Mostly though, my working life has been dedicated to human service and to advocacy for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Among them I count many of my friends and to them I
attribute much of my inspiration.

The beauty in the world and the good in it, are in the things we choose to see, appreciate and value. It’s a gift that we live well by embracing and sharing.

Exhibition credits in recent years include the Pride Show at the Rockland Center for the Arts where I have been a regular participant since 2014. I was the featured artist in 2016. My work has also been included in the Rockland Center’s Members show (2017) and in a group exhibit at the Renaissance Gallery (2016).

One man exhibits include shows at Ned Kelly and Co. (2016-2017) and at the Piermont library.

Among my greatest accomplishments, I count my three amazing daughters in whom I am extremely proud. I live in Piermont, New York with my wife, Mary (she’s pretty amazing too). In my personal life I have been blessed, and am very grateful for that.

There’s a light to shine us on our way
In spite of all that’s bleak and grey
It’s beauty charm and all things to me
It warms the heart that we might see
The good in things and so we’re blessed
A gentle voice, tenderness
And on this journey find a way
To know the wonder in each day
